I'm not 100% satisfied with the answers we received but we were told that the infection was caused by bacteria that is normally found in your mouth. The diagnosis was cellulitis which does not make sense to me at all but we're home with another week of antibiotics.

Yay!!!! I'm so glad y'all are home!!! Reed's lip looks SOOOOO much better!!! Matthew had an abcessed tooth once that spread cellulitis into his cheek and that whole side of his head swelled up and he had to have IV antibiotics. Oddly.....that was considered "normal".... Hang in there! Hopefully the cat will forgive you soon! Love to all!!
